Byers Canyon is an eight-mile stretch along the Colorado River, nestled between Hot Sulphur Springs and Kremmling, Colorado. The canyon was carved over millions of years as the river eroded its way through layers of siltstone and granite, creating its towering rock walls. It’s part of the Colorado River Headwaters Scenic Byway, a route known for its dramatic landscapes and close-up views of the river. ​ Running parallel to the river is the historic Moffat Route, built in the early 1900s by David Moffat. The railroad passes through some of the sharpest curves of any mainline railway in the country, hugging the river’s path through the canyon. Today, Byers Canyon remains a key part of both the railroad and the river’s route, providing stunning views for travelers and a powerful reminder of the natural forces that shaped Colorado​.
