Day 5 - No Trespassing!

Day 5: Searching for Access and Navigating Small Water

Day 5 had us back on the river—eventually. We started off driving around, searching for a public access point, but every spot we found was either private or a dead end. Then we met Judy, a landowner who came through in a big way. She pointed us toward the right access spot, and before we knew it, we were finally back on the water.

The water was still running low, making it tricky to navigate. More rocks, more shallow stretches, and a lot more effort than we planned. Small water has a way of humbling you—you think you’re making good time, then you hit a rocky patch, and suddenly, you’re back to dragging the board or picking your way through channels.

Despite the low flow, we paddled further than expected. We got into a groove and just kept pushing forward. By the time we pulled out, it was later than planned, but there’s something satisfying about going a little farther than you thought you could.

Huge thanks to Judy for getting us pointed in the right direction. Tomorrow, we’ll tackle whatever the river throws our way.
