Day 8 - Colorado River... That Hurt, But It’s Making Me Stronger

The morning started out colder than expected. That sharp, early chill that cuts through your layers before the sun hits. Not exactly what the muscles needed after yesterday’s Colorado River beating in Byers Canyon, but it’s all part of the ride.

Today, I threw on my new Hala fins—fresh out of the box and ready to bite into whatever the river had to offer. They didn’t disappoint. The board felt dialed in, sharper with every turn. Perfect for a short solo paddle I needed to clear my head and push through the soreness.

Paddling alone in the cold, feeling every ache and bruise from yesterday, you start to understand how the river works you over—not to break you, but to make you stronger. Every stroke felt a little more deliberate, every move more focused. Sure, the pain’s still there, but it’s becoming part of the process.

By the time I made it back to camp, the sun had warmed things up. And me? I’m stronger for it.
